Dr. Hessert joined our practice in July 2023. He has served in the U.S. Navy since 2002. Dr. Hessert served as Chief of Naval Aerospace Ophthalmology at Naval Aerospace Medical Institute in Pensacola, Florida. He routinely perfoms cataract, LASIK and eyelid surgeries.

A native of Wausau, Wisconsin, Dr. Hessert received his Bachelor’s degree from The College of William & Mary in Virginia and his medical degree from University of Wisconsin-Madison. He completed Internal Medicine Internship in 2003 and Ophthalmology Residency in 2007 at Naval Medical Center San Diego. Dr. Hessert is board certified in Ophthalmology and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

He, his wife, and their two daughters enjoy traveling, cooking, kayaking, downhill skiing, and hiking in the Smoky Mountains. They are happy to call Tennessee their home after 21 years of moving.
